Ben Nevis at 877 meters, is in the Mt Cole State Forest, the summit, is above a huge precipitous granite rock face, pictured below. On the top there is a fire spotting tower along with radio communication infrastructure. Nearby and still above the rock face is the Red Rock hang gliding launching area. Further west along the ridge is the Eversley Sugarloaf peak, it is also used as a hang glider launching point. On the 21st May 1942. On the 21 may 1942 an RAAF Avro Anson with five on board crashed into Ben Nevis, one crew member survived. Further details of the accident can be found here. My route was mostly along the newly established Borella Walk, named after a noted local bird watcher, Max Borella.
